Shoes are Optional!

A little about us

The Race

We are excited to announce the inaugural shoes optional Barefoot Boise 5K/10K Run/Walk scheduled September 14, 2013! The race will start and finish at the old timers shelter in Ann Morrison Park. The chosen route will be entirely on the greenbelt path.

About Us

Barefoot Boise is a non-profit fun run established in 2012. Our goal is to support other local Treasure Valley nonprofit organizations whose purpose is to inspire the human spirit. We celebrate and encourage barefoot fitness in runners and walkers of all levels of experience, age and ability.

Why Barefoot

Natural running is the act of running without footwear. Throughout human history, running barefoot was the natural way to run. While shoes provide necessary foot protection from cuts, bruises, and the weather, barefoot running offers benefits and is healthier for the feet by reducing the risk of chronic injuries and notably repetitive stress injuries due to the impact of heel striking in padded running shoes.

To provide the benefits of both running barefoot and shod, different varieties of barefoot-inspired footwear are available, including thin-soled and flexible shoes such as traditional moccasins and huaraches, and modern footwear designed to simulate running almost barefoot.

2013 Beneficiary

All profits from this year's inaugural race will be donated to Recreation Unlimited. Their mission is to create and support recreational and competitive opportunities for people with disabilities, through quality ski instruction in a positive environment which enhances the development of social, physical and developmental skills.
